Back in 2008 I started a site called The Fortress of Baileytude. For roughly 17 years it was a place for me to post images and musings about Superman (and other characters) as well as serving as the home for my podcasts. Then the hosting company I was using upped the regular costs to the point that I just could no longer afford to stay with them and the site went away.

Goodbye, Fortress of Baileytude.

The thing is I love having a site. I love sharing the things I have scanned over the years. I love writing about comics. I love having a place to serve as a home base for the podcasts that I do.

Hello, Bailey Planet.

When I first decided to build a new site I had planned to mainly post images, reviews, editorials, musings, ramblings, and assorted bits of business about Superman. After talking to a friend about the new name, he mentioned that “Bailey Planet” covers Superman, but it can also cover Batman or anything else I feel like posting about. Much like the Daily Planet, which covers…well…the planet (it’s in the name) it is a name that doesn’t have to be just about the Man of Steel. Between that and my own mercurial attention span, it seemed like a good idea to keep my options open.

Which is a fancy way of saying that while Superman will be the main focus and make up the bulk of the content, just about anything involving my love of comics is on the table. Batman. The Hulk. Green Lantern. The Flash. Captain America. The Justice League. The Justice Society. The Avengers. The X-Men. Spawn. All of that and more could end up being discussed on this site.

I realize that casting a wide net means that my ability to have a “brand” for the site will be limited, but I’m not worried about that. I’m not here to cultivate a brand . I’m here to talk about my love of comics. So, I’ll post what I want and let the chips fall where they may.

So, bookmark the site and subscribe if you feel like doing so. Some posts will be deep dives. Some will be a house ad. It depends on what I feel like posting about that day.

Welcome to The Bailey Planet. I hope you like what you see.

Special thanks to Isamu Hideaki-Yukinori for the Bailey Planet logo. Like his late father, Isamu is an insanely talented artist and I cannot adequately express my gratitude for him gifting me the logo.

Really excited for new content coming! I was a huge fan of the Fortress these past few years and I’m excited to be here at the start of Bailey Planet. Really looking forward to the wide variety of content you mentioned especially Hulk because I’ve really been getting into the Hulk recently.

Mission Statement

The Bailey Planet is a lot of things. Part blog. Part journal. Part ramblings of a middle-aged man that is semi-retired as a comic book reader and collector. Part second home for the podcasts I host or co-host. Part archives for stuff I’ve scanned over the years. Part archives for anything related to The Death and Return of Superman.

It’s a lot of things.

As the graphic states, the focus will be Superman, Batman, and more. The more can be just about anything to do with comics and super-heroes. Expect more DC content than Marvel, but it’s not off the table.

Patreon

I have a Patreon. It is essentially a tip jar for the moment, so I can’t promise exclusive content, but if you could chip in $1 a month that would help the cost of this site and the podcasts I produce. If you can’t, that’s cool. I know times are hard.
