Outside of the first issue of Legend of Shield, Impact Comics was something that I did not read when they were first published . In 1997, I bought pretty much the entire line from a comic shop that was going out business and filled in the one or two issues I needed from my home store. I had a ball going through the books and just fell in love with the universe and most of the characters. I was especially fond of The Fly and The Comet.
Impact was a cool idea. A line of comics aimed at a younger audience featuring characters DC licensed from Archie Comics. The ads had great copy that were aggressive in trying to get you interested in the books.
For a variety of reasons the Impact didn’t last long and ended in a very weird way, but the first year of all of the books were some great reading with dynamic art. Between being licensed characters and the market heading in a direction that made characters like The Punisher, Spider-Man, and the X-Men fan favorites, the Impact line had a lot going against it, but reading them and watching that world develop years later was a lot of fun.
If you find them in the back issue bins, give them a shot.
