According to Mike’s Amazing World of Comics, Batman #1 came out on this day (April 25th) in 1940.
Batman #1, unlike Superman #1 from 1939, contained four brand new Batman stories instead of reprinting previously published Bat tales. Not only does the Joker get his first appearance, but the character that would become known as Catwoman as well. The Joker actually got two stories, which is both curious and not curious because he was obviously an engaging villain for Batman to fight right from the jump. There’s also a classic Hugo Strange story where Batman uses guns to dispatch a bunch of monsters.
It’s a cool book with an iconic cover.
