Another 6 for the price of 5 ad, which is a pretty good deal.
What stands out for me about this ad is the line up of characters. The characters at the top would all have their own Super Powers figures within four to six years and that’s the main reason seeing them all together makes me happy. The only figure I wouldn’t end up owning was Captain Marvel. He was never on any of the pegs at the toy and department stores when the third wave was new and, thanks to Sears just not sending the order my mom placed in late 1986, I didn’t get him that Christmas.
But Superman, Batman, Hawkman, Aquaman, and Green Arrow? I had all of them.
I don’t have a non-necessary organ to sell at the moment to afford a Captain Marvel figure now.
I like that the ad uses the fact that this is the only comic featuring all of these characters as one of the key selling points. You can tell this is when the Green Lantern/Green Arrow team was still a recent thing by pointing out that Green Arrow appears, “in solo action”. I also like that Mary Marvel, Captain Marvel, Jr., Hawkwoman, Black Canary, and Adam Strange are at the bottom of the ad. I’m not sure how I feel about the “special appearance by” tag because I feel like they were important parts of the strips they were part of in World’s Finest.
It’s just a cool ad.
